Designing A Nursery: What Are The Factors To Take Into Account?

The anticipation of the arrival of a new edition to the family is very exciting. It is also an excuse to take on a new decorating project. Those people that already have children may not need as many things as new parents. Whatever your situation, before you rush out and start buying things at random, there are a few important things to take into consideration.

One of the first things a new mother has to ponder are aesthetic factors like the wall colour, flooring and window treatments. These elements will be a combination of what you like and what you think the baby will like. Some people choose to go with an obvious children's theme like animals, cartoon characters, or blue for boys and pink for girls, while others want the environment to be more neutral and sophisticated. Whatever colours or themes you choose, do not forget about the ceiling. The baby will be spending a lot of time gazing at it when they are in the crib, being changed or being held. A favourable idea is to paint a mural on the ceiling.

Before you know where you are baby will be grown up and looking for a first car. Will you need hot hatch insurance for a feisty offspring or student car insurance for an academic one?  Then when your child grows older, family car insurance or even prestige car insurance, day insurance for car or short term car insurance may be necessary. After all, parenting doesn't last for ever ......

Next, is flooring. Most people have either carpeting or hardwood floors throughout their house. If the carpeting is in great condition and free of stains and smells, then it should be just fine. If the flooring is hardwood, the addition of some plush throw rugs makes sense so the infant has a soft surface on which to crawl. Also, area rugs can easily be washed or changed at any time. As far as window treatments are concerned, there are a few different options. The window treatments should be dark enough to block out any light during the day. This may include the use of blinds or dark curtains. Sheers are also nice for daytime when you actually do want light to fill the space. Speaking of light, the best interior lighting would be overhead lights with dimming capabilities. That way, the light can be adjusted, depending on what is going on in the room at various times. A lamp for activities like reading stories to the child and a nightlight for when you want to check on the baby in the middle of the night are also smart ideas.

Adequate storage is another aspect of designing a nursery and it is of vital importance. Kids inevitably come with a lot of stuff. By having a designated place for everything, it will be easier to keep the room tidy. It will also enable you to quickly find things, instead of conducting a major search mission. You do not want to be fumbling around for extra diapers or the baby's favourite stuffed animal when he or she is screaming at the top of their lungs. Storage is needed for things like clothing, diapers, wipes, toiletries, toys, books, and extra bedding and blankets for those occasions when accidents or spit-ups occur. A hamper for dirty clothes and a waste container for used diapers will also come in handy. It is dangerous to have things laying all over the floor that people can trip over when they walk throughout the room. There also needs to be space for the baby to crawl around on the floor, without fear of something falling on them. Also, be sure there are no electric cords hanging down that the infant can pull.

The other essential elements for any nursery include a crib for the baby to sleep in and a changing station. Finally, do not forget about a seat. Many people like to rock their baby to sleep in a rocking chair. If there is enough space, a comfortable chaise lounge is also a good idea for those nights when you may want to sleep in the same room as the baby. To get a decent night of rest, a comfortable spot where you can put up your feet and close your eyes will be very much appreciated.
